How Food Heals

Nutrition is constantly evolving and there are many diets and ideas out there about how to best use food.  What most agree on is that Whole Foods, prepared fresh and in season, grown locally are by var the best way to eat.  That is the first level.

In the past we knew about proteins, fats and carbohydrates.  Then later as we journeyed out into the world we discovered the importance of vitamins and minerals through diseases like scurvy.

Now enzymes, probiotics and phytochemicals are the frontier of nutrition.  These are the co-factors and vehicles by which the healing power of food is carried deep into the body.

Often found in the rinds, skin, stems and seeds of plants, these phytochemicals are powerful acting substances that have specific actions.

For example the avocado has a high amounts of Glutathione a phytochemical that the Liver needs for detoxification.   In some clinics Glutathione is administered via injection.  Why inject when you can get it from the avocado which also has valuable fiber and living fats to protect our heart and moisten our skin.

In short your body can only use what you put in your mouth as raw material to build itself out of.  If you eat processed food it’s like building a house out of plastic and Styrofoam.  After a while the house will begin to fall apart.  When we eat close to nature we get the wisdom of the plants and the energy they have absorbed from the sun, the minerals from the earth and the reproductive energy contained in their seeds.

Don’t be fooled by the simplicity of food as medicine.  Imagine you took a pill and soon after your face became flush, you began sweating, your nose was running and you heart began to beat more quickly. (picture of a guy sweating)

Would you say that was a powerful drug?  I would.

That drug is a hot pepper. Known in Eastern Nutrition to raise the heat in the body, open the pores, increase digestion, move stagnation and clear the lungs.  We all can experience and yet it is not the minerals or enzymes, the protein or carbohydrate that has those powerful effects.

When we combine eastern nutrition and food healing science we can powerfully shift conditions in the body.
